Satellite data & applications
  • EDI was established in 1960 and currently is a public research institution.
    Currently, EDI is the highest-rated scientific institution in Latvia in the field of engineering and technologies, specializing in Smart Embedded Cooperative Systems (SECS).
  • We are focusing on the following research directions: extremely precise event timing; remote sensing and space data processing; robotics and machine perception; signal processing and embedded intelligence; smart sensors and IoT.
  • EDI has 300+ international partners within numerous EU projects (H2020, EIT, ECSEL, ERA-NET, COST, ESA, etc.).

TECHNOLOGIES AND COMPETENCES

  • Extremely precise event timing incl. space domain:
    - Timers with 3ps single short RMS resolution 
    - Our Timers are used in more than 50% of International Laser Ranging Service network 
    - Timing devices recognized by ESA, NASA, ROSCOSMOS 
    - Space Grade Electronics
  • Remote sensing: with support of ESA, we develop complex methods and software for EO. Our semi-supervised land cover classification technology Dynland is focused on automatic classification of satellite images and our latest results show the superiority of our non-parametric clustering algorithm over K-means and ISODATA

EQUIPMENT

  • Self-developed high stability test generators, different arbitrary frequencies generators, high performance oscilloscopes, optical table with necessary components for laser pulse generation, splitting, reflection and receiving, wide range temperature and humidity chamber and vibration system.

MAJOR SPACE PROJECTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

  • On-board implementation of the multi-purpose Event Timer (ESA contract No.4000115326/15/NL/NDe))
  • Dynamic land use monitoring by fusion of satellite data (DynLand) (ESA contact No.4000118771/16/NL/SC)
  • Automated identification of mires and peatlands using multi-temporal satellite data (MireClass) (ESA contract No.4000128570/19/NL/SC)
  • Object based context aware self-learning network for land cover classification (Dynland-2) (ESA contract No. 4000133163/2020/NL/CBi)

CURRENT AND TARGET PARTNERSHIP

  • Eventech Ltd., signed License Agreement for the rights to manufacture and distribute the A033-ET timers
  • We are looking for partners for: application of the timing technology; Earth Observation related projects (ESA, Horizon Europe) ; licensees of the Dynland technology
