The purpose of the activities of Joint Stock Company “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) is administration of state-owned forest property and management of public forest, ensuring preservation and increase of its value and generation of revenue for its owner – the State. LVM manages and administers 1.62 million ha of land, including 1.60 million ha of forest land, which incorporates 1.41 million ha of forest. The main product of the company is timber. In addition to forestry, LVM also provides hunting and recreational services, produces selected seeds and saplings for reforestation, offers subsoil resources and land leases for subsoil resource extraction, and provides geospatial IT development services.
LVM activities in space domain mainly to support the forest management activities but also related to other business direction like mineral resources and seeds and plants. LVM uses earth observation satellite data and derived products to acquire forest inventory data such as stock volume, tree height, species etc. In addition, acquires information about forest disturbances such as windfalls, pests, and flooding.
LVM competencies within space domain are automatic processing and analysis of the earth observation data on the regional scale. Since LVM has diverse business directions we have expertise to process and abalyse and combine EO derived products, such as Copernicus services, EUMETSAT products and others.
