SUCCESS: Latvia’s Space Industry Takes a Significant Step Toward Closer Cooperation with Indian Space Research Organisation

On March 19, during an official visit to India by Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braze, a high-level meeting was held with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Latvia’s space industry was represented by the Latvian Space Industry Association (LAIK), with Mihails Ščepanskis, CEO of Deep Space Energy, and Pavels Razmajevs from Eventech.

During the meeting, the ISRO delegation expressed a keen interest in deepening technical collaboration with Latvia in the following areas:

  • Satellite data processing for forest management;
  • Radioisotope energy source technologies (Deep Space Energy);
  • Quantum communication and other advanced applications of Eventech’s products.

LAIK extends its gratitude to Minister Braze and her office for facilitating such a warm welcome from senior ISRO officials. They also thank the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) and the Latvian Ministry of Economics for their crucial preparatory work ahead of the visit.

This visit strenghtens Latvia’s priorities in the Space Sector, which also include:

📌 Development of satellite data-based services for forest and land management;
📌 Excellence in niche technologies and fostering bilateral cooperation for space missions and commercial product development.

In the coming weeks, LAIK will intensify efforts to initiate and coordinate technical cooperation discussions between Latvian companies and ISRO, in close collaboration with the Embassy of Latvia in India.

ISRO boasts a full range of launch vehicles, including commercially efficient LEO launchers and heavy launchers like the one that recently facilitated the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission to the Moon’s polar region. Furthermore, ISRO is rapidly expanding its Earth Observation and navigation satellite network. With a 2024 budget of approximately $2 billion, ISRO continues to solidify its position as a key global player in space exploration.
